INT. BEDROOM. DUSK
The days depleting sunlight is draping through the windows
casting a shadow of a figure sitting in the room. We see the figure perched on
the edge of a bed. This is Luke. He is dressed in a black suit, with a white
shirt and tie. The way he is sat shows that something is not quite right. As we
draw nearer we see that he is holding a picture in his hands. We cut to a close
up of the picture. We see Luke with a middle-aged man. The pair look content.
As we begin to focus on the photo we see a single droplet of water drop onto
the picture and begin to fall down the rim. We see that Luke is crying over the
picture. During this we hear a faded voice over with Luke talking with the man
in the photo. We find out that the man is in fact his Dad. Cut back to the
picture. We then see the picture dissolve from black and white into colour. We
pan out from the picture to reveal that it is in a frame. As the camera moves
around, we pass a second picture of Luke with a blonde haired girl. The pair
are young and we see they are having fun. We then hear the sound of a door
closing. The camera pans around to the window revealing a figure walking across
the front drive. Words appear on the screen ‘Present day’
SCENE
1
(In colour)
We see Luke walking down the road. His posture is slightly
hunched. His hands are in his pockets, which gives the feeling of him keeping
himself to himself. Towards him is a bus stop where a group of people are
waiting for the bus. As he passes his hands delve deeper into his pockets and
his posture tightens and lowers. He keeps on looking back at them, with a sign
of worry on his face. He looks forward again and walks off camera. Back at the
bus stop, we see a teenage girl looking in the direction of Luke, with concern
and confusion. This is Sarah. This is the girl from the picture in Luke’s room.

SCENE
2
INT. CROWDED BUS. DAY
Sarah is sat next to a large middle-aged man. She has the
seat next to the window. To pass the time she has her earphones in listening to
music. As she listens, she looks out the window, taking in the surroundings.
INT. COFFEE SHOP. DAY
Luke is sat by himself drawing in a book. He takes a sip of
his coffee and looks around the room nervously before putting the cup back down
on the table. As he puts the cup down, the sound of people talking stops. Luke
suddenly takes his hand away from the cup and slowly raises his head. Everyone
in the shop is looking directly at him, people have stopped mid action to look
at Luke. A woman has paused sipping her drink, staring at him. He nervously
looks around the room, his head slowly moving, his eyes wide with fear. As this
happens the door to the shop opens. Here enters Sarah. We see things now in her
view. Everyone in the shop is acting normal. She spots Luke looking around
nervously and begins to walk over to him. As she sits down, she looks at him
with slight discomfort.
SARAH
Luke...
are you all right?
Luke suddenly looks at her. Worry is written on his face.
His hands are shaking. He opens his mouth and begins to speak slowly.
LUKE
Everyone
is staring at me!
|
SARAH
Luke.
There’s no one staring at you
Cut back to Luke’s point of view, where everyone is still
staring at him. He begins to start shaking slightly. We then start to hear
whispers, these whispers are about Luke. Insulting him “look at that looser” and
“he’s worthless”. As this happens we see Luke sink low into his chair, his
hands cover his face, his shaking worsens and he starts to cry. He begins to
tug at his hair as his body cowers lower into his chair.
Cut back to Sarah who has become worried to what she is
witnessing. People around her start to give quick glances to see what’s
happening. Sarah then extends her arm slowly, reaching Luke to reassure him. As
she makes contact, Luke’s arms slam down on the table making him the centre of
attention. His face his red and eyes bloodshot from crying.
LUKE
I
can’t stand this... I need to go, I need to go!
Luke suddenly jumps up from his chair and rushes out from
the shop. Sarah looks at him, panicking on what she has witnessed. Luke leaves.
Seconds later Sarah gathers her bags and exits the shop to follow him.

EXT. LAKE. DAY
The sun shines down on a lush green field. As we pan around
we see the suns glow reflecting off the surface of the lake. Sarah enters the
shot; she looks around the area for Luke. As she walks further, she spots him
sitting on the bank where the field meets the lake. She walks over to him and
sits down. Luke looks onto the lake watching the ripples in the water. He
breathes in a sigh of relief, wiping the tears of his face.
Sarah looks at him with love and comfort on her face.
SARAH
I hate
to see you like this Luke.
LUKE
I
can’t cope anymore, since my dad died, my mom doesn't care for me like she used
to. It’s just not fair
SARAH
Life
isn’t fair. But it’s something we have to deal with. I’m sure your mom still
loves you, but she might be dealing with it in a different way to you. But you
also have friends who care for you and love you.
As she says this Luke turns his head to look at her. She
smiles back at him. At this point Luke realises that Sarah has always been
there for him and she is his true friend. He looks at her, he smiles and we see
true happiness on his face. The two both turn to face the lake. As this
happens, we see a clip of the two when they were both young reflected on the
surface of water. The clip that is playing is a memory from the picture of the
pair together in Luke’s bedroom. We then pull back from Luke and Sarah.
